Mikel Arteta given clear target for Arsenal to test Mohammed Salah's shock transfer admittance

Arsenal should look to make a sensational Premier League transfer next season if Mikel Arteta’s side qualify for the Champions League. Mohammed Salah’s surprising desires should have put the Gunners on red alert.

According to The Athletic, Salah would leave Liverpool on a free transfer next summer and join a Premier League vial if he can’t agree to a new contract. The Egyptian’s preference is to stay in England.

The Gunners drastically missed out on Champions League football ahead of next season. But, if Arteta can guide Arsenal to a top-four finish in the next campaign then it could allow the north London side to enter the race for Salah’s signature.

Salah has shown himself to be arguably the best player in the Premier League over the last few seasons, having won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his time at Liverpool. His individual importance has been highlighted by the fact that he has also won the Premier League golden boot on three different occasions.

A transfer move for Salah by the Gunners at this point may seem laughable. But with the trajectory that Mikel Arteta is taking his young side on and with significant progress proven at the end of next season then Arsenal can certainly become an attractive destination for Salah.

The Gunners narrowly missed out on a Champions League spot ahead of next season after defeats to Tottenham and Newcastle saw the north London side miss out on qualification for Europe’s elite competition by only two points.

Arsenal had already been plotting 2023 free transfer for a superstar as German news outlet Bild reported that Arsenal were interested in bringing Serge Gnabry back to the club this summer but their failure to qualify for the Champions League removes any hope of making it happen. However, he is a free agent in 2023, and Arsenal will look to explore that option.

Salah would certainly be the preferable free transfer option simply due to his pedigree and the knack for goals he has shown during his last five years in the Premier League. A transfer for Egyptian certainly seems unrealistic at this moment of time, but if the Gunners qualify for the Champions League next season then Arsenal could be an attractive destination for Salah.
