Arsene Wenger once pleaded with Arsenal fans for patience in the transfer window as they struggled to make signings to the squad.
That, though, has been completely turned on its head in the last two years with Mikel Arteta and Edu at the helm. The two have worked together to bring in a number of transfers in the last couple of years.
Arsenal are on the verge of their fourth signing of the year after already bringing in Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira. Gabriel Jesus, one of Arteta's top priorities, is set to arrive from Manchester City in a deal worth £45million.
For many Gunners fans, this is quite the change of order at the Emirates where they have been used to being toyed in the transfer window. Wenger even admitted as much all the way back in 2013 when he revealed that the club were working around the club to sign players.
"We are there to spend money," he said after Arsenal lost 3-1 to Aston Villa on the opening day of the season. "People say: 'Buy players, buy players, buy players … ' But who? We analyse every single player in the world and work 24 hours a day for that. We are serious about it. Until we buy players we have to win football games."
That summer, Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil in a marquee arrival - as well as Mathieu Flamini and Yaya Sanogo. While the German might have been seen as an impressive coup, he hardly lived up to his potential while the arrivals were largely forgettable.
Fast forward to today and Arteta has near enough changed the mentality completely after two summers of spending money. It was only last year when the Spaniard was being commended for his actions in the market.
After offloading several high-earners and elderly statesmen, he brought in younger and hungrier players such as Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale. And this year, he has kept up the exact same effort.
At one point, moves for Jesus and Raphinha - which could total over £100m in they both arrive - might have been seen as audacious at one point. But not this summer, a situation that might not have been imaginable with Wenger at the helm.
The Frenchman was desperate to bolster his squad and sign some stars as well as bringing through the academy graduates at the club. That vision is now being fulfilled by Arteta.
