Mikel Arteta explains clear demand set for five new Arsenal signings amid £100m spending spree

Mikel Arteta is hoping Arsenal's new signings can 'inspire' the existing players at the club ahead of an important 2022/23 season.

Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos have all signed for the Gunners this summer. Technical director Edu has splashed the cash for a second successive summer, surpassing the £100million mark, with more signings expected before the transfer deadline.

Arsenal are focusing on outgoings at the moment, having sold Bernd Leno to Fulham and Lucas Torreira also expected to leave the club in the coming days. Arteta has revealed the demand he has for his new signings as he looks to build on the progression made last term.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game against Crystal Palace, Arteta discussed the five new arrivals and the impact he hopes they'll have on his current squad. The Arsenal boss said: "Obviously we signed some very important players that bring a different mentality, they won a lot and now they have to inspire our young team to get to another level. That’s the aim.

"We offered them a different role within the team and that’s what they were looking for in their career. Now, the fact you know them personally is a big thing, so I’m happy to have them."

Arteta worked with Jesus and Zinchenko during his time at Manchester City as a part of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff. The Spaniard won two Premier Leagues, an FA Cup and two Carabao Cup titles during his time with City and emphasised that the arrival of 'proven winners' will help inspire his team for the 2022/23 campaign.

Arsenal are currently 1-0 up away at Selhurst Park against Palace after Gabriel Martinelli nodded home from close range after a well-worked set piece. New man Zinchenko grabbed the assist on his official debut which will come as a welcome sight for Gunners' fans.
