Mikel Arteta drops major hint on Arsenal starting line-up for Wolves Premier League clash

Mikel Arteta may have hinted that Cedric Soares will be starting against Wolves on Thursday night.

The Gunners defeated Bruno Lage's side at Molineux Stadium just under two weeks ago thanks to a first-half strike from Gabriel Magalhaes.

It was a huge win for the north London club, who are chasing a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League, a competition they have failed to qualify for in each of the last five seasons.

They currently sit five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United in the Premier League table, although the Red Devils have played three more league fixtures than Arteta's side.

Ahead of the match at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta may have hinted that Portuguese defender Cedric will be deployed at right-back against the West Midlands club.

Speaking about the former Southampton star in his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard said: “It’s exactly what I want.

"That we have players that can play in the same role with different qualities that give us different options and you have the reassurance that they give you performances at a high level.”

Cedric was in the team whilst summer signing Takehiro Tomiyasu was injured in recent weeks but Arteta's comments may suggest that the Japanese international will have to wait before getting back into the starting XI.

Tomiyasu joined from Serie A side Bologna back in August and the 23-year-old has hit the ground running in north London, registering seven clean sheets in just 16 Premier League outings this term.

The versatile defender boasts impressive defensive numbers, making 30 tackles, 19 interceptions and 43 clearances in the league alone, but he still may have to dislodge Cedric from the starting XI.
