Mikel Arteta delivers update on Gabriel Jesus' injury ahead of Tottenham vs Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has delivered an update on Gabriel Jesus' current knee injury.

Jesus was sidelined for the return of the Premier League on Boxing Day, sustaining his injury during Brazil's World Cup campaign in Qatar last year. The 25-year-old then successfully underwent surgery just over five weeks ago but Arteta has admitted he won't be returning to action in the short term.

Speaking about Jesus ahead of Sunday's North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur, the Spaniard said: "He’s progressing really well, he’s working really hard, he’s in the right place in terms of the time that we set for him, but he’s still a bit far."

When asked if the former Manchester City frontman would return this season, Arteta added: "I’d like to see him very quickly but I don’t think it’s gonna happen.

"We’re going to have to be patient with that one. But let’s see.

"It’s a complicated surgery, in any surgery there are always a lot of things were you have to be cautious. He’s a player that’s going to push to be really fast on the pitch."

It is unclear when exactly Jesus will return to full training but Eddie Nketiah's recent performances have certainly allayed fears from some supporters, with the Hale End academy graduate netting four times in his last four outings.
