Mikel Arteta confirms Bukayo Saka fitness boost for Arsenal and makes Thomas Partey admission

Bukayo Saka is expected to be involved for Arsenal against West Ham United, but Thomas Partey is not likely to play again this season despite posting a positive fitness update on social media.

With regards to the winger, he emerged as an injury doubt after limping out of last weekend's 3-1 win over Manchester United. Although, 'Saka Cam' - a new feature from the club showed him walking around just fine as he applauded supporters during a lap of appreciation after the game.

And speaking ahead of Sunday's London derby against West Ham United, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that he expects to have Saka available for selection as he bids to guide the side to a third straight win and take another big step towards sealing Champions League qualification.

"Yes, hopefully, he will be fine," Arteta told reporters during his pre-match press conference at London Colney on Friday afternoon. "He had some issues in the final part of the game but he has recovered well and we expect him to be fine."

But whilst it was good news regarding Saka, the Spaniard was less optimistic about the likelihood of welcoming back Partey before the end of the season. This is after the Ghana international took to Instagram on Monday and posted a video of him running on a treadmill.

However, whilst Arteta has said that he does not expect Partey to play again, he is hopeful that the central midfielder proves him wrong in what would be a major boost for the Gunners in their top-four quest.

"He's progressing but he had a significant injury, a recurring injury as well so we don't expect him to make progress that quickly to see him this season, but hopefully I am wrong," the Arsenal boss added.
