Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal are “very active” in the transfer market ahead of the January window.

While the first half of the season was as close to perfect as possible for the Gunners, Gabriel Jesus’ injury has threatened to derail the campaign.

There are fears the forward could miss up to three months of action after undergoing knee surgery to correct a problem suffered while away on World Cup duty with Brazil.

Standard Sport understands Arsenal had planned to recruit a wide forward in January after failing to land Wolves winger Pedro Neto during the final few days of the summer window.

Orlando City’s Facundo Torres is a target, while the club hold a long-standing interest in Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The injury to Jesus, however, could now see them target a centre-forward as Arsenal bid to maintain their Premier League title push in the second-half of the season.

Speaking after his side’s friendly win over AC Milan in the Dubai Super Cup, Arteta said: “We are looking and we are very active looking at the possibilities. If we can find the players that can strengthen the team we will try.”
