Along with a new striker, we know that Mikel Arteta is keen on bringing in a new central midfielder this summer as he looks for further competition to go head-to-head with the likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.
As various reports have claimed, Youri Tielemans appears to be the frontrunner at this stage, with the Belgian having just one year remaining on his Leicester City contract. However, the transfer window can be unpredictable, and it's always wise to have contingency plans in place.
It's also worth remembering that Arsenal could be in need of two midfielders later down the line if there is a key departure. AS Roma are still believed to be interested in Xhaka, and any move would have a huge impact on the club's plans.

Wolves' Ruben Neves is thought to be admired by the Arsenal hierarchy, but a sizeable asking price set by the Premier League side appears to have cooled interest for now. Despite this, plenty of potential options remain, and a new name could now be on the market.
Bild are reporting that Bayern Munich would be willing to sell Marcel Sabitzer if an offer of around €15m (£12.8m) is received. The 28-year-old only joined the club last summer after becoming a standout for RB Leipzig. However, a lack of game time has reportedly left him considering his future.
Arsenal's name was first linked with the Austrian a couple of years ago, but since his struggles at Bayern, they have again been linked in other reports by Bild. This isn't much of a surprise, considering that Sabitzer possesses a playing style that would suit Arteta's team.
His incredible versatility has seen him play in eleven different positions throughout his career, from right-wing to midfield and even left-back. Today, his minutes mostly come in central midfield, in both an attacking and defensive capacity. Sabitzer is also a leader and offers a goal threat from the middle of the park, a quality which Arsenal have lacked in recent seasons.
I think it's fair to say that Tielemans should rightly be a priority, but if a scenario was to occur where a deal collapsed or someone like Xhaka departed, Sabitzer would represent a shrewd bit of business for the Gunners.
