Mikel Arteta award, Premier League champions - pundits predict Arsenal end of season outcome

Arsenal are set for a huge few months ahead, with their whole season potentially hinging on the upcoming set of fixtures. The Gunners currently sit top of the Premier League, leading rivals Manchester City by eight points, having played one game more than them.

With 10 games to go, the north London side still have to play the Cityzens along with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle before the end. If they can navigate past them, then the squad have a big chance at landing a first league title in years and restoring the club to the top again.

With that still some time away, plenty of predictions have come in from pundits as to how they think the campaign will finish in late May. football.london has taken a look at a few of those forecasts to see exactly how a few people see the title race ending this season.

Mikel Arteta award

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville backed Mikel Arteta to win the Premier League's "manager of the year" award, even if the side slump at the end of the season. Speaking on Sky Sports in January, he claimed: "The reason why he [Arteta] is manager of the year if he finishes third, second or first is because at the end of the last season I thought he was in significant trouble."

Neville continued: "Third, second or first… I would say that is still a great season. I know Arsenal fans from this position and maybe even Mikel Arteta would say that would be disappointing – but it would be a great season. It would be."

Title prediction

Former Arsenal icon Paul Merson believes that if Arsenal won all three games out of Fulham, Crystal Palace and Leeds then the side will win the league. The Gunners have claimed maximum points from the first two clashes, with the final game of the trio up next on April 1 once the Premier League resumes after the international break.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I think they win the league. They just keep on going and don't know when they're beaten. It's four [Premier League wins] on the trot and you've got to remember the roll they were on before they started winning those games.

"They went 1-0 down at Villa after 10 minutes when they hadn't won for three games, had just been well beaten by Man City and they bounced back. They've been brilliant and the next three games will be defining for me. If they win them, I don't see how they don't win it.

"After Senesi scores [for Bournemouth's second], you think the worst way out here is 2-2. Then [Thomas] Partey scores and [Benjamin] White scores, which was provided by Reiss Nelson. And what a goal it was from him. Bournemouth probably had the better chances at stages. They didn't pick the right pass when they counter-attacked. They'll be devastated in the dressing room.

"But what I like about Arsenal is they keep on going, they pen you in. When the ball goes in the box, there aren't too many players in the box, they're more all out of the box to keep them pressed in, then the ball comes out and they go again. It was relentless."
