Mikel Arteta assesses Jakub Kiwior performance for Arsenal Under-21s amid Everton decision

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was left impressed by Jakub Kiwior's performance for the Under-21s on Monday night as the Spaniard weighs up whether to include him in his squad against Everton. Emile Smith Rowe lined up alongside the Polish centre-back as they both continue to build up their match fitness ahead of a congested fixture list in March.

Both Smith Rowe and Kiwior were withdrawn from action at half-time after putting in strong performances meaning it is likely they will be involved in some capacity against the Toffees on Wednesday night. The January signing in particular gave an impressive display, with his composure on the ball and range of passing leaving supporters stunned by his talent.

The young Gunners dominated most of the match with Smith Rowe going close to scoring twice. Following the change at half-time, Arsenal fell to a 1-0 defeat as their control over the game fell away.

Speaking ahead of the Everton clash, Arteta revealed how impressed he was with both Kiwior and Smith Rowe as he looks to make a decision on their involvement tomorrow night. When asked what he thought of the duo's performance, the Spaniard replied: “Really good.

"Obviously, they needed some minutes and at the moment they haven’t had much exposure for different situations. It was great to see them on the field because we’re going to need them in the next couple of games.”

Arsenal are facing a run of six games before the international break in March starting with their Premier League game in hand against Everton at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow night. The Gunners could extend their advantage at the top of the table to five points over reigning champions Manchester City with a win against Sean Dyche's side.

Europa League action returns next week with the north Londoners in action against Sporting CP in the round of 16. Kiwior and Smith Rowe could be set to start the first leg should Arteta use the competition as a chance to rotate his squad given the importance and focus on the title race.
