Mikel Arteta addresses Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Arsenal future as Saudi transfer bid emerges

Arsenal have received a bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Saudi giants Al Nassr, according to recent reports.

football.london reported over the festive period that the Gunners are open to offers for Aubameyang following a disciplinary breach that resulted in the veteran striker losing his captaincy duties last month.

Now, according to CBS, the north Londoners have received a proposal for their former skipper, with the Riyadh-based club offering to take the 32-year-old on loan until the end of the current campaign before signing him permanently in the summer for €8million (£6.7million).

The report also claims that technical director Edu and co are yet to respond to the offer for Aubameyang, who is into the final 18 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The former Borussia Dortmund star returned early from the Africa Cup of Nations after testing positive for Covid-19 earlier this month as the Gabon Federation claimed that he was suffering with a minor heart problem, although football.london understands that Arsenal's doctors were not concerned by the issue after speaking with the player.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has opened up on the situation involving the out-of-favour forward, admitting that the club have been making sure everything is okay with his health.

"Yeah, he’s in London and going through some examinations because we haven’t had any clarity from the Gabon national team about the reasons why he came back", Arteta said in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool.

"So, obviously it’s our obligation to make sure he’s safe and in good condition and not any issues related to that and try to avoid any suggestion that that’s the case because so far historically with everything we’ve done with the player he’s never had an issue. So hopefully that’s the case."

The Spaniard added: "That’s the situation that we have. He contracted COVID and the national team decided to bring him back here.

"That’s where we are. Let’s do the right step, let’s do the right examinations and make sure the player’s health is in the best condition. We will see what happens."
