Mike Vrabel reportedly expected to bring former interim GM to Patriots

The New England Patriots are reportedly expected to hire former Tennessee Titans interim general manager Ryan Cowden in an unspecified front office role.

Yahoo’s Charles Robinson was first on the report on Sunday.

Cowden spent the last two seasons as an executive advisor to New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen. Robinson noted that he believes Eliot Wolf will retain his personnel power, but Cowden being added to the front office was newly-hired head coach Mike Vrabel’s “preference.”

“I’m hearing Giants personnel advisor Ryan Cowden is expected to be added to the Patriots personnel mix, but not with a GM title,” Robinson posted on social media. “I believe Eliot Wolf will retain personnel power. However Cowden’s addition to the front office is Vrabel’s preference. Dynamics will be interesting.”

Cowden joining the front office will give Vrabel some familiarity in the room with roster building. This initial move doesn’t signal an immediate staff overhaul.

For now, it would appear as if Vrabel is bringing some of his guys in to work with some of the staff already in place.
