Mike Tyson lands huge body shots as 56-year-old legend spars with trainer

Mike Tyson has been filmed landing huge body shots in a sparring session with trainer Rafael Cordeiro.

The boxing legend, now 56, retired from the sport in 2005 after an epic heavyweight career which reached its pinnacle when he became undisputed champion. He recently made a comeback in an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr back in 2020 where he showed glimpses of his power.

Tyson has remained in training in California alongside trainer Cordeiro at the MMA Gym, Kings MMA. Cordeiro posted a video of the pair sharing the ring in a sparring session on Instagram, with the caption: "Light sparring with the tiger." Cordeiro can be seen with a big body pad on while Tyson throws a powerful whipping left hook into the torso of his trainer before following up with another thundering right hand.

Cordeiro landed some punches of his own which saw Tyson duck and weave away from them before the pair separated and began dancing light on their feet. The trainer showed a wry smile in the ring after clearly feeling the power of the retired 56-year-old. Tyson's trademark aggression and power saw him defeat some of the most prominent figures in the heavyweight division.

He scored big KO victories over the likes of Frank Bruno, Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes during the height of his career. Now Tyson remains active and has stayed in good shape despite his retirement over 17 years ago. It has even been claimed that Tyson has recently been taking supplements to maintain his fitness ahead of a potential return to the ring.

Tyson initially announced his plans to step beyond the ropes again this February but a fight failed to materialise despite several options emerging. His most likely option would be a meeting with high-profile star Paul who has stated his intentions to meet Tyson. A fight could see the pair generate revenue of around $300 million according to the YouTuber who has launched his own professional career in the sport.

The legendary heavyweight previously ruled out facing Paul but has been a defender of his boxing career. However he has since altered his stance to a fight but believes it has to happen before the end of the year.

"Anything is possible but it has got to happen this year," Tyson responded when asked about a clash with the YouTube star on the Jimmy Kimmel show. "That could be very interesting. He is skilled enough and I will give it to him because he is winning.

"Even if he is fighting fighters that aren't meant to be good enough, they should still be beating him but they can't. He is beating people that he shouldn't really be beating so you have to give him credit. He is doing good and he is doing things that are great for boxing. This guy has 7 million people following him every time he fights."
