Mike Trout Drops Hint on Future With Angels Ahead of Talks With Management

After the Angels announced Mike Trout would remain out for the remainder of the season while recovering from a fractured hamate bone, the superstar outfielder spoke to reporters and addressed his future in Anaheim.

On Monday, Trout voiced his frustrations over the injury that put an early end to his ‘23 campaign.

Additionally, the 32-year-old said that he anticipates having a discussion with management about his future with the franchise when the two sides meet this offseason. Trout stated that he expects to be back in an Angels uniform in 2024, via Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register

Trout suffered the fractured hamate bone on July 3. He was placed on the 10-day IL and returned for a one-game spell on Aug. 22, before being shut back down by the team. He was subsequently transferred to the 60-day IL before being ruled out for the year on Sunday.

The Angels have six games left in the regular season and are not in contention for the playoffs, the ninth year in a row they’ve missed out on the postseason.

Trout has played in 1,489 regular-season games for Anaheim, but has made just three playoff appearances.

He’s under contract for seven more seasons, not due to hit free agency until 2031. Trout signed a 12-year, $430 million extension with the franchise back in 2019. Still locked into his deal for more than a half-decade, Trout indicated on Monday he’s expecting to be with the Angels next season.
