Mike Tomlin: Russell Wilson ‘in consideration’ to start vs. Jets

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson was cleared to play prior to Week 6 and was active for the first time this season. This week, Mike Tomlin said Wilson is “in consideration” of starting.

It’s far too early in preparation for the New York Jets for Tomlin to name Wilson the starter, but it’s certainly leaning that way.

“We’re looking hard at it this week and it’s in consideration,” Tomlin said in his weekly press conference.

Tomlin confirmed an earlier report by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that Wilson will get first-team reps this week.

“I’m sure at some point [he’ll get first-team reps]. I hadn’t decided who gets the ball first. That sort of minutiae hasn’t been decided.”

Whether fans like it or not, Wilson was the starter in the offseason and has never been listed as QB2 on their official depth chart. Fields hasn’t lost the job because it was never securely his.
