Mike Tindall explains why his kids do not sit with Royals at Christmas dinner

Mike Tindall has shared why his children do not sit with him or the other royals during Christmas dinner.

Sharing an insight into Christmas Day with the Royal Family, Mike gave several inside secrets to James Haskell and host Alex Payne on his podcast JOE UK’s House of Rugby.

The ITV I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! star revealed that the children are traditionally seated in a separate room.

According to BirminghamLive, he said: “This is the other one, the family lunch, there must be about 70 of us there – there are seven tables and then the kiddies have their own little one in a different room.”

Members of the royal family do not open their Christmas presents on Christmas Day. Instead they abide by the older European custom of opening gifts on Christmas Eve.

Former royal chef, Darren McGrady, told Good Housekeeping back in 2016, "The royals are of German descent so they weave in German traditions to their celebrations. After afternoon tea, they open gifts on Christmas Eve, as is the German tradition."

King Charles' former communications secretary Kristina Kyriacou provided an insight into how the Royal family celebrate Christmas on last week's ITV This Morning. She said: "The tradition has been at Sandringham they lay out their Christmas gifts on trestle tables and just around teatime, they open their Christmas gifts on the 24th."

Many would expect the Royal Christmas to include the sharing of expensive gifts, but the expert revealed it is the exact opposite as she said Princess Anne once jokingly gave her brother a toilet seat. She said: "I should say at this point that I don't think there are any enormous outpourings of cash with the Christmas gift.

"It's very much a jokey, humorous gifting. It's almost who can get the most laughs with their gifts. I think a lot of fun is had."
