Barry Posner was present at Manchester City's record attendance, and used to drive players to and from training in the 1940s and 1950s. He trained alongside the likes of Bert Trautmann, and his father was a club doctor on the bench at Maine Road even earlier in the 20th century.
Lifelong City supporter Barry turned 100 this month, and was welcomed as a guest of the club to watch City's FA Cup win over Burnley at the weekend.
After the Manchester Evening News spoke to Barry about his life supporting City, and also growing up in a Jewish family in Manchester, the club arranged for him to attend the Burnley game - where he received a surprise from club ambassador Mike Summerbee.
Given the VIP treatment at the Etihad, Barry and his family watched City put six past Burnley in a box, and at half time, Summerbee surprised them with a framed City shirt, signed by the first team squad, with 'POSNER 100' printed on the back.
"It was beyond my imagination," Barry told MEN Sport. "Manchester City looked after us remarkably well and were unbelievably generous. I was very impressed with the facilities, all the staff were lovely and caring. It was the highlight of my birthday.”
Mike Summerbee said: “It was a privilege to meet Barry and present him with a signed shirt on behalf of the Club.
“To have been following Manchester City since the 1920s and be here at the Etihad today is a remarkable thing. I know everyone at the Club was delighted we could create an unforgettable day for him and his family to thank him for his amazing support throughout the years.”
