Mike McDaniel Drops Witty Response to Dolphins Holding Top AFC Playoff Seed

The Dolphins (9-3) currently hold the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed after destroying the Commanders 45-15 on Sunday at FedExField.

But Miami coach Mike McDaniel isn’t putting much stock in the NFL standings entering Week 14. He was asked Tuesday about his reaction to seeing the Dolphins atop the conference’s playoff picture.

“Call me when it’s a 13-game season,” McDaniel said to reporters in a press conference. “And I’ll be excited to talk about the next game.”

The Dolphins have five games left, including three matchups against playoff contenders to finish the regular season against the Cowboys (9–3), Ravens (9–3) and division-rival Bills (6–6).

They have won three straight contests since suffering a 21-14 loss to the defending champion Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany.

“I think for all of us that have been around the NFL long enough, you get about four, five games left and [playoff seeding] becomes a lot of the conversation,” McDaniel said. “... The only reason why we are 9–3 is because we haven’t penciled in any of the wins people have told us to pencil in.

“ ... My reaction to it is, ‘Oh?’ But irrelevant and erroneous for what’s the most important thing, and that’s the game that will be played this week on national television.”

McDaniel and the Dolphins are preparing to host the Titans (4–8) at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday Night Football.
