Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton called Arrowhead Stadium “Burrowhead” recently and it’s something Kansas City Chiefs players are using as motivation before Sunday’s AFC title game.
But Hilton, who coined the catchphrase on the sidelines during the divisional round win over the Buffalo Bills, says it was an off-the-cuff remark.
Hilton’s reaction to it getting so much attention was captured by Fox 4’s Harold R. Kuntz: “Oh you’re trying to stir something, but really just popped up to me on the sideline. I just knew we were going to Kansas City and it’s Arrowhead, so, I thought of my Quarterback and called it Burrowhead.”
It probably wasn’t atypical sideline banter with opposing fans in the heat of the moment, but cameras picked it up and away it went.
Call it just one small piece to the puzzle that is both sides trying to find a status as an “underdog” going into this one.
For whatever it’s worth, Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay gave the Bengals some free bulletin-board material too.
