Mike Hall Jr.’s massive mistake costs him nearly $2.5 million in guaranteed money

After he was arrested, booked, and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence, rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. has cost himself a massive opportunity on and off the field with the Cleveland Browns.

Signing his rookie contract, Hall Jr. had nearly $2.5 million in guaranteed money owed to him throughout the tenure of his first four years in the NFL. After his arrest, however, Hall Jr. has now voided all of those guarantees that the Browns would have been obligated to pay him.

This does not mean that Hall Jr. loses out on that money altogether, as he has a chance to still earn it if he plays out the full four years of his contract in Cleveland. However, what it does mean is that the Browns could cut him today with zero strings attached if they gather more information that motivated them to move on from the Ohio State product.

The Browns tend to give players a long leash, but Hall Jr.’s just got a lot shorter.
