Mike Gesicki continues to take the high road despite lack of targets

Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki’s 2022 campaign probably isn’t going the way he would’ve liked.

Through 13 games, the former Nittany Lion has recorded just 24 receptions for 269 yards and four touchdowns. In the last three contests, Gesicki has been held without a reception – the first three-game streak without a catch in his career.

That isn’t exactly the production of a tight end who received a $10.9 million franchise tag this offseason to keep him in South Florida.

Despite this, Gesicki has continued to say all of the right things to the media throughout the year.

“I just continue to come in here, be positive, with a positive attitude, try to be a good teammate, and try to handle my business like a professional,” Gesicki told Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post. “That’s really all I can do. All I know how to do. I don’t, I don’t call the plays, I don’t draw them up. I just go out, execute, and try to be the best teammate and guy in this locker room and let everything else kind of take over.”

He’s celebrating with his teammates, but it would only be natural for a player to be upset about his lack of usage. To this point, Gesicki and his good friend Durham Smythe have played the exact same amount of offensive snaps (399) despite the monetary commitment to the former.

This situation seems to be headed to a split this offseason, but Gesicki shouldn’t be blamed because the effort and professionalism are there.
