The Denver Broncos are among four teams who “remain interested” in free agent running back Dalvin Cook, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.
In addition to the Broncos, the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots are also interested in Cook, according to Florio. (Those three teams are also considered the betting favorites to sign Cook.)
This report should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
Denver running back Javonte Williams has made great progress in his recovery from last season’s knee injury and the team gave Samaje Perine a two-year, $7.5 million contract during free agency this spring.
The Broncos currently have about $8.9 million in remaining salary cap space, according to OverTheCap.com. Unless he signs an extremely team-friendly contract, Cook would eat up a large chunk of that remaining cap space.
The situation is worth monitoring, of course, and it is possible that Denver remains interested in the running back. It’s just hard to imagine the Broncos actually signing Cook given the RBs already on the roster and the team’s cap situation.
