Mike Bobo highlights area for Georgia quarterback Carson Beck to improve

Georgia Bulldogs star quarterback Carson Beck is a first-team All-SEC selection with high expectations in his second season as a starter. Beck returns to a great situation at Georgia. The Bulldogs have seven other All-SEC players on offense and have a significant amount of roster continuity.

Beck compiled 3,941 passing yards, 28 total touchdowns and only six interceptions in his first season as a starter is looking to build off that experience. Beck, who is a candidate to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, has a strong arm and is a quick decision maker.
“The one area that we addressed in the spring and at the beginning of the fall camp is the deep ball,” said Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. “The deep ball doesn’t necessarily always need to be the perfectly thrown ball when you hit the guy in stride. Sometimes we want it to be that way as a quarterback. But it’s a lot just giving the guy a chance.”
One memorable example of a deep pass not being perfect is when quarterback Stetson Bennett hit wide receiver Arian Smith on a deep pass in the fourth quarter of the 2022 Peach Bowl. Smith had an enormous amount of separation and just needed a catchable pass, which Bennett delivered.
Carson Beck still has Arian Smith as a receiving option and needs to be ready for when Smith gets behind opposing defenses. Mike Bobo couldn’t help but praise Carson Beck when asked how he could improve.
“One, he does a great job of processing, getting the ball out quickly, and I don’t remember what his completion percentage was. It was extremely high last year,” said Mike Bobo. Beck posted a completion percentage of 72.4% last season and took just 11 sacks, which highlights his ability to quickly and accurately deliver the football before opposing pass rushers can disrupt him.
