Newcastle United favourite Miguel Almiron has posted a positive update as he works hard on his injury recovery behind the scenes. The Paraguayan hasn't featured since scoring the winner in a 2-1 win over Wolves last month but could be back for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday as he tries to overcome a thigh problem.
Almiron has been running on grass in recent weeks and gave Newcastle fans a further update on Monday as he shared a video of himself completing a number of stretches at the training ground. The winger was also present at training on Tuesday as he shared a second update in the team canteen.
There was slight hope that Almiron would be back playing ahead of schedule in recent weeks but Eddie Howe insisted the target remains late April. “I’d love him to beat the timescale given, but I don’t see it currently," the Newcastle boss said.

“He’s making good progress and he’s pain free, so I don’t think there’s any long-term issues, but it’s just the time it takes for the muscle to heal. I think we’re four weeks off, maybe slightly less, but he’s making really good progress.”
Almiron has been granted a summer return to his former stomping ground this summer when Newcastle jet to the United States for the inaugural Premier League Super Series. The Magpies will play their second of three games at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home to Almiron's former club Atlanta United.
Almiron played for the MLS outfit between 2016 and 2019, earning fan-favourite status for the club. Newcastle CEO Darren Eales also joined the club from Atlanta.
Newcastle will take on Aston Villa at the home of Philadelphia Eagles, Lincoln Financial Field, before facing European-chasing Brighton at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. The three matches will take place between July 22 and July 30th.
Before that Newcastle must try and secure Champions League football at the business end of the season. Almiron has played an integral part in his side's success this term and is Newcastle's top scorer with 11 goals and three assists to his name.
However, the former MLS man faces an uphill battle returning to the starting XI once fully fit again. Almiron had already lost his place to Jacob Murphy before his recent injury blow - and the boyhood Newcastle fan has kept his place from the outset in Almiron's absence.
