Miguel Almiron's agent asks for summer talks with Newcastle United and discusses exit clause

Miguel Almiron's agent Daniel Campo has asked for talks about the Paraguay international's future at the end of the season.

The South American still has two years left on his contract on Tyneside but has made just 11 appearances from the opening line-up and is no longer a guaranteed starter with the Magpies.

Speaking to South American radio station Futbol a lo Grande, Campo said: "Miguel Almiron's exit clause from Newcastle is close to $80million.

"In June we will see what the club says, I have interest from clubs in Spain and Italy"

Almiron's future has been debated publicly before when Campo suggested had it not been for the pandemic Miggy would have been playing for Atletico Madrid or Inter Milan.

Almiron has certainly had interest before and spoke to Napoli in between rounds of talks before signing for Newcastle in 2019.

Campo's remarks infuriated former boss Steve Bruce in November 2020, when he said: "This is an agent who, two years in, is probably trying to profit again and take him somewhere else is just hugely disrespectful to all of us, and to this club, which has served Miguel so well, in particular."

Chronicle Live columnist Lee Clark commented yesterday: "I think we need other types of players around him so Allan Saint-Maximin can gel with them.

"Miguel Almiron doesn't seem to be getting a lot of games under Eddie Howe whether that is down to the system we play while Ryan Fraser, despite a couple of bright moments, he hasn't exactly hit the heights has he?"

Almiron signed for Newcastle three years ago for £21million from MLS side Atlanta United.

He played four minutes of the 1-1 draw against Watford and last started a game during the 4-0 defeat against Manchester City.
