In early 2024, Margelis Rodriguez and her two children found themselves stranded in Tijuana, Mexico, after their hopes of a life-changing moment were dashed. The family, like tens of thousands of others, had appointments that were abruptly canceled by the Trump administration's immigration crackdown. The CBP One app, which facilitated entry for nearly 1 million people, was discontinued, leaving many in limbo.
Having fled violence in their hometown in Venezuela, Rodriguez and her family embarked on a perilous journey through multiple countries, eventually reaching Tijuana. Despite their setbacks, Rodriguez remains determined to navigate the uncertain future. She and her children now reside in a shelter, grappling with boredom and anxiety while helping out with daily chores.

With limited resources and mounting worries, Rodriguez contemplates her next steps. Unable to afford a return trip to Pachuca, she considers seeking work in Mexico. While she fears deportation and struggles with sleepless nights, she remains steadfast in her resolve not to risk her children's safety by attempting an illegal border crossing.
As Rodriguez and other migrants navigate the challenges of their circumstances, a glimmer of hope emerges. Encouraged by the support of a local pastor and reassurances from her relatives, Rodriguez finds solace in the belief that a new opportunity may arise in the future. Despite the uncertainties and setbacks, she remains resilient, determined to start anew and persevere through the obstacles that lie ahead.
