Midlothian residents facing power cuts as Scottish Power issues apology

A power cut has hit residents of Dalkeith in Midlothian, as Scottish Power apologises to customers for the sudden switch-off this morning.

The outage affects the entire EH22 postcode, and was first discovered at 8:07am on Tuesday morning by engineers.

Scottish Power has confirmed that they now have engineers on site working on the problem - and are promising the restoration of power as quickly as possible.

On its website, Scottish Power said: "There is a power cut affecting the EH22 postcode area of Dalkeith. We had no advance warning of this and first became aware of it at 8.07AM.

"Our engineers have arrived on site and will work to restore your electricity supply as quickly and as safely as possible."

The energy suppliers have also noted that power should be restored across the area by 10:15am this morning.

The Midlothian Council have also advised parents that children are currently being sent home from school, due to the power cut.

On their Twitter, the Council wrote: "PUPILS BEING SENT HOME AS DALKEITH CAMPUS, SALTERSGATE & WOODBURN SHUT. The Dalkeith campus has closed because of power failure.

"Schools contacting parents/carers to collect their child or check they can return home on school transport. Scottish Power on site. Update later."

Scottish Power added: "The latest updates can be found on our website. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."

During the power cut, residents have been advised to do the following:

  • Switch off all electrical appliances that shouldn’t be left unattended, in case the power comes back on.
  • Leave a light on so you know when the power outage has been resolved.
  • Check to see if your neighbours are okay.
  • Wrap up warm.

For more information, visit the Scottish Power Energy Networks website for further details on what to do in a power cut, and when the power will be restored.
