A Midlothian mechanic was caught by cops driving his boss’ BMW while high on cocaine.
Jack Bennett was stopped by officers in Bonnyrigg and given a roadside saliva test. The 24-year-old tested positive for cocaine and cannabis while behind the wheel of the BMW X3.
A later test found he was nearly nine times the limit for benzoylecgonine - a substance made when the body breaks down cocaine. Bennett appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday and admitted a drug driving charge, reports the Daily Record.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Grant said Bennett was pulled over by officers on the B704 Cockpen Road. Ms Grant said Bennett provided a positive saliva test and was taken to St Leonard police station in Edinburgh where he failed a further drugs test.
Bennett admitted driving a car with 435 microgrammes of benzoylecgonine in a litre of his blood. The maximum limit is 50 microgrammes. Defence agent Graeme Runcie said first offender Bennett had been driving the BMW belonging to his boss.
Mr Runcie said his client, of Gorebridge, Midlothian, had lost his job and was currently unemployed. The solicitor said Bennett “went off the rails” around the time of the incident on December 14, 2021 following a family bereavement.
Sheriff Ian Anderson banned Bennett from driving for 12 months and imposed a £150 fine.
