Midlothian man dies in horror Thai crash as tributes made to 'beautiful soul'

Tributes have been made to a local Midlothian man after he was tragically killed in a motorbike crash in Thailand.

36-year-old James Young was described as an "absolute gem" by loved ones after he died following the serious collision near Koh Samui on Thursday.

Originally from Bonnyrigg, James is reported to have been living out in Thailand when his scooter crashed into a waste disposal lorry in the early hours.

Suffering severe injuries from the collision, a fundraiser has now been launched to bring James back to Scotland as well as support his family with funeral costs, reports the Sun.

Created on Friday, September 2, the page has now raised over £5,000, with friend and organiser Jason Ross describing James as a "beautiful soul."

Speaking on the GoFundMe page, he said: "My name is Jason Ross. I'm reaching out to anyone who knew my brother from another mother, James Young from Bonnyrigg, Scotland and a former resident in the USA and currently Thailand.

"Tragically on September 1st, 2022, James was taken from us in a road traffic accident in Koh Samui.

"Words cannot describe how we are all feeling just now, and our hearts go out to James's family and close friends.

"Due to the nature and location of his passing, James' s family now faces the harsh reality of this tragic event and the financial burden they weren't prepared for.

"Myself, James's family and friends would be forever grateful if you could give whatever you can.

"Even if you can't donate, please share the page far and wide, which will help bring James home to Scotland for the send-off he truly deserves."

You can donate to the fundraiser here.
