Midlothian cyclist films heart-stopping near miss as bus rushes past on busy road

A cyclist from Midlothian filmed the heartstopping moment a bus rushed past him on a busy road.

Taking to TikTok, the cyclist who goes by the handle Hehimonabike, wears a camera on his helmet and captured the moment as the bus drives past him, giving him a fright.

He captioned the video, "To be fair, most Border bus drivers are okay. This guy though...".

The cyclist shouts and swears as the bus passes him, with people in the comments debating whether it was a close pass or not. One said: "Ridiculously close pass.'

Another said: "I don't know why people are saying it was far away. The bus was at an angle, the back end was soo close."

Although another argued: "Nowhere near you."

According to gov.uk, drivers should leave at least 1.5 metres (five feet) when overtaking people cycling at speeds of up to 30mph, and give them more space when overtaking at higher speeds.

A Borders Buses spokesperson said: "We expect our team to drive safely and responsibly whilst respecting other road users. We shall investigate this incident and will remind our team of the importance of identifying cyclists on the road, keeping their distance and respecting cyclists and other road users."
