Midlothian cars melt after 'two men in hoodies' start fire in quiet street

A number of cars in Midlothian have been left completely written off after being set alight in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Three vehicles were seriously damaged inside a local Penicuik cul-de-sac after one was deliberately torched in a 'reckless' incident.

Many residents had woken to the smoke and flames, with emergency crews racing to the scene at around 2.45am to extinguish the blaze.

One vehicle on Yarrow Court had been completely burnt out, with the blaze powerful enough to have melted the sides and doors of the two adjacent cars.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, one eyewitness said their CCTV has shown "two guys" in dark hooded jackets and jumpers around the scene shortly before the fire.

Police have now appealed for witnesses or footage of the incident, with no injuries reported as a result of the blaze.
