There are reportedly discussions between Microsoft and Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment over a potential sequel.
Over on Giantbomb, games industry insider Jeff Grubb spoke on his show Grubbsnax about potential plans for Fallout: New Vegas 2. VGC then transcribed the conversation.
“This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences, and these words are Obsidian and [Fallout New Vegas 2],” Grubb said. “We’re talking years and years away. There’s at least an interest and conversations happening about making something like that actually a reality.”
Not since 2015’s Fallout 4 has a mainline entry come out of this series. Bethesda is planning Fallout 5, but it’s a long way off. Studio director and producer Todd Howard is working with Amazon on a Fallout TV series that’ll enter production this year.
Fallout: New Vegas, on the other hand, was developed by Obsidian Entertainment in 2010, though the studio hasn’t worked on the series since. Fans have been hoping Obsidian Entertainment might make Fallout: New Vegas 2 ever since Microsoft bought the studio in 2018 and later acquired Bethesda Softworks in 2021.
The possibility is certainly there, though nothing is certain until one of these companies comes out with a confirmation.
