Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT) has announced the appointment of Puneet Chandok as Corporate Vice President of Microsoft India and South Asia, effective from September 1, 2023.
Chandok will assume operational responsibilities from Anant Maheshwari and will oversee the integration of Microsoft’s businesses across South Asia, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
This move aims to boost the company’s presence in the region while deepening its focus on key industries through a customer-centric approach with generative AI at its core, according to the press release issued by Microsoft.

“Puneet joins Microsoft from Amazon Web Services, where he led the company’s India and South Asia businesses, working closely with enterprises, digital businesses, startups, and SMBs to help them reduce technical debt, bring in agility, and innovate,” said Mazhari.
“Since starting operations in the region more than 30 years ago, Microsoft now has thousands of employees working with customers, partners, and organizations in 18 countries and territories,” said Microsoft Asia.
“Our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. And, we strongly believe this aim closely aligns with the ambitions of the nations, businesses, and people of the Asia Pacific.”
According to Microsoft Asia, the company is constantly expanding their regional cloud infrastructure to underpin innovation, stimulate economic activity, and lay the foundations for business resilience with 20 datacenter regions across 11 markets. In India alone, their datacenter regions have added 1.5 million jobs to the economy over five years, including 169,000 new skilled IT positions.
“Our datacenter investments go beyond technology infrastructure. For example, regional expansion in Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan are set to generate more than US$21 billion in new revenues and create 100,000 new jobs by 2025,” said Microsoft Asia.
