Micky van de Ven plays down injury fears after Tottenham defender limps off in draw with Manchester United

Micky van de Ven played down any injury fears after he was forced off late in Tottenham's draw with Manchester United.

The centre-back had been out with a hamstring injury since Spurs' defeat to Chelsea in early November, but made his return after more than two months out at Old Trafford.

Van de Ven started alongside Cristian Romero, returning from his own hamstring issue, and impressed as Spurs defied a number of absences to produce an impressive display.

Rasmus Hojlund put United in front inside three minutes but Spurs responded well, equalising through a flicked header from Richarlison. They had to do so again after Marcus Rashford restored the lead, with Rodrigo Bentancur levelling it up again within a minute of the second-half getting underway.

Romero and Van de Ven largely dealt well with the threat of the United attackers, with Van de Ven's pace in particular on show whenever the hosts tried to exploit Spurs' high line.

The 22-year-old was forced off with just a few minutes remaining though, after going down and pointing to his leg. Van de Ven initially carried on, but Ange Postecoglou opted to swiftly replace the centre-back and bring on Emerson Royal, with Radu Dragusin already introduced for a debut.

Speaking after the match, Van de Ven confirmed it was not a serious issue, with the defender confident it was just cramp after so long on the sidelines.

"Really happy to be back," Van de Ven told Sky Sports.

"At the end a bit [of] cramp, but the rest was ok. It was just a cramp in the calf.

"I didn't play for I think two-and-a-half months and you saw the intensity of the game was really high, so to be honest I think minute 89, it was just cramp."
