Micky van de Ven agent speaks out on Liverpool transfer links as price tag revealed

Micky van de Ven’s agent has revealed there are a number of clubs interested in signing his client this summer as speculation linking the defender with a move to Liverpool continues to grow.

The ECHO reported earlier this month that the Reds were targeting a left-sided centre-back this summer. An addition at the back would provide competition and cover for Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

One player who has been linked with a move to Anfield is Van de Ven after he enjoyed a successful season at VfL Wolfsburg in Germany. The 22-year-old made 36 appearances for the German giants last season - the club that new Reds sporting director Jorg Schmadtke departed earlier this year.

And now Jose Fortes Rodriguez, Van de Ven’s agent, has been speaking to WAZ in Germany regarding his client and his words will encourage Liverpool that a deal to sign the centre-back is possible this summer.

He said: “Micky has played a fantastic season. There are many clubs that are interested. It would be stupid to say now that he will definitely stay in Wolfsburg. Anything can happen this summer.

“A player like Micky, who has developed so well – the calls from the clubs come automatically. I am asked: What is the situation? Do we have a chance?

“As I said, anything can happen this summer. It could be that he leaves. But if the right club doesn’t come along, why shouldn’t Micky stay in Wolfsburg?”

WAZ claim that Wolfsburg are "cool" with the speculation surrounding Van de Ven, who recently extended his contract until 2027, and they are yet to receive any offer for his services. And they add that the player would not be sold this summer for anything less than €30m (£25.7m).

The ECHO also understands that several midfielders are under consideration as Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Schmadtke look to add further to the engine-room ranks following the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.
