Derry Girl is the first single Mickey has released in three years following his last long play record Me Two released in 2018.
This upbeat single tells the story of dating a girl from the wrong side of town, religion or beliefs shouldn't matter when it's love.
Mickey Joe Harte told MyDerry: "Since I was a teenager I spent a lot of time studying and playing gigs around the city. As I mention in the song my granny was indeed a Derry girl.
"So it's just really nice to have this reconnection with a city I love so well.
"It is nice to be able to use localisms, or Derry-isms, in a song and not feel like you need to clarify or explain them in any way. That's really down to the great writing from Lisa McGee who has given us all a bit of a poetic license following the global success of Derry Girls.
"Those little throwaways are now considered cool and fun phrases to use and to be proud of."
Derry Girl was recorded in Attica Studios with producer/engineer Tommy Mc Laughlin and mastered in London with John Davis.
Best known for his single We've Got The World released in 2003 Mickey Joe has gone on to tour the US, Australia, Europe and Dubai making a career in a business that few have the opportunity to stay in, Mickey has played hundreds of concerts with his band and solo and has retained a loyal audience across the globe.
Outside of his recording and touring Mickey Joe has been working on a local project Music To Your Ears for men bringing them together through music and tackling isolation and loneliness. They have now put on over 9 shows in the North of Ireland celebrating the talents of its never too late to take up music.
Derry Girl is available now on all digital platforms, and released through Swerve Music Limited.
