Mick Schumacher is reportedly set to cut ties with Ferrari once the 2022 Formula 1 season comes to an end.
The 23-year-old is currently enjoying his second season in the sport with Haas after a scoreless rookie season. He finally opened his account at the British Grand Prix when he finished eighth - a position he improved upon at the following race in Austria with a P6 result.
The German suffered a number of disappointing crashes before scoring his first F1 points at Silverstone. Before he put in his impressive performance, he was involved in accidents in Saudi Arabia and Monaco that undoubtedly cost Haas millions to repair.
With only eight races remaining before the end of the season, Schumacher is still looking for a seat after he missed out on the Aston Martin drive with Fernando Alonso replacing Sebastian Vettel. As the four-time world champion is set to retire, Schumacher will be the only German on the grid - if he has a seat.
His Ferrari Driver Academy contract expires at the end of the season, and - according to Motorsport.com - Schumacher will not be retained by the iconic Italian team. He joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2019, one year after winning the European F3 championship.
Schumacher experienced his first taste of F1 action in practice ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix in April 2019 before his second outing for Alfa Romeo the following day. With Haas rumoured to be considering other options, it appears the Schumacher family’s long-term connection with Ferrari will come to an end.
His father Michael won five F1 championships with the Italians in an iconic ten-year spell. Former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt even still visits the German twice a month after his horrific brain injury suffered eight years ago.

Haas are exploring who to pair with Kevin Magnussen amid reports of tension between Guenther Steiner and Schumacher, although the German has improved over the last few races. Haas could move for former Alfa Romeo star Antonio Giovinazzi as an option, with the Italian set to gain his first experience of the new era of cars at the Italian and U.S. Grands Prix.
Giovinazzi will replace Magnussen and Schumacher respectively at the opening session of such events. If the 28-year-old joins alongside the Dane, Schumacher will be without a team - but Esteban Ocon hopes he will join Alpine.
The Frenchman said: “What I would like is for Mick to race with me, that is clear because he is my good friend, but that is not going into the bosses’ ear. I’ll let them decide.”
The 22-race F1 2022 campaign continues with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort on September 4.
