Mick O'Dwyer visited by Kildare GAA legends from team that made it to 1998 All-Ireland final

A bunch of the stars of Kildare's memorable 1998 team got together to pay a visit to their former manager Mick O'Dwyer in what was a lovely touch.

Under the Kerry icon, The Lilywhites reached their first All-Ireland decider since 1935.

While they lost that day to Padraic Joyce, Ja Fallon and Co by a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-10, it remains a cherished time in Lilywhites football.

Celebrating the players from that era reuniting with Micko, Kildare GAA tweeted: "Members of 1998-2000 Kildare panel visit Mick O'Dwyer to present a token of appreciation for his contribution to Kildare GAA.

"Pictured from left to right: Ronan Sweeney, Anthony Rainbow, Glenn Ryan, Mick O'Dwyer, Michael McCarthy, Eddie McCormack, Dermot Earley and Johnny Doyle."

Kildare were one of five counties the 86-year-old managed over the course of a glorious inter-county career.

Apart from his native Kerry, he also achieved notable success with Laois as they - like Kildare - won a Leinster title.

And he also oversaw Wicklow and Clare before retiring from the game in 2013.

O'Dwyer is clearly still held in high esteem across Kildare judging from the comments beneath this recent picture.

Frank wrote: "Fair play to Micko and the lads. We might not have won the big prize but those lads gave us all great excitement and a whale of a time following them around.

"Great times. Micko looks really well. Good to see."

Similarly, Michael added: "Photo for the ages..Micko and the lads brought us within touching distance of Sam...heroes all."
