Mick Jagger sends message to Liverpool FC squad ahead of Rolling Stones gig

Mick Jagger will roll out the red carpet for Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool squad when the Rolling Stones play at Anfield next month.

Klopp’s men came close to claiming the Premier League title on Sunday, being pipped to the post by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. But, as Jagger could have told him, you can’t always get what you want.

However, the Reds have a chance to secure a treble with a seventh Champions League title on Saturday when they face Real Madrid in Paris, so all is not lost by any means. As further consolation, when the Stones play a Liverpool gig for the first time in more than 50 years, Klopp and his team have been invited along as special guests.

A source close to the band told the Mirror: “Mick is a massive Arsenal fan and follows their matches. Liverpool beat them twice in the league and dumped them out of the Carabao Cup so he could be excused for holding a grudge.

“Mick is so excited about playing a show in such an iconic stadium and would love to meet Jurgen and the players.”

Jagger and bandmates Keith Richards, 78, and Ronnie Wood, 74, are currently preparing for the first night of the European Tour in Madrid, Spain, next week. The source said the 78-year-old and the band had “factored in time in their rehearsal schedule” to watch the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid on Saturday.

The Stones will play at Anfield to kick off the UK leg of the SIXTY tour, which marks the band’s 60th anniversary and features two shows in Hyde Park, London. The band last played in Liverpool in March 1971, playing a concert at the Empire Theatre.

To mark the latest show in the city, they have unveiled a poster especially for the occasion.

Whenever the Stones go on tour around the world, the band design a bespoke work as a tribute to the city where they are performing. The latest artwork features the Rolling Stones tongue motif morphed into a Liver Bird on top of the Royal Liver Building.
