Mick Jagger catches Covid forcing The Rolling Stones to cancel gig

Rock and roll legends The Rolling Stones have been forced to cancel a gig tonight (June 13) in Amsterdam after Mick Jagger tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, the band said: “The Rolling Stones have been forced to call off tonight’s concert in Amsterdam at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, following Mick Jagger testing positive after experiencing symptoms of Covid upon arrival at the stadium.

“The Rolling Stones are deeply sorry for tonight’s postponement, but the safety of the audience, fellow musicians and the touring crew has to take priority. The show will be rescheduled for a later date. Tickets for tonight’s show will be honored for the rescheduled date. Standby for details.”

In a separate statement posted on his own Twitter account, Mick Jagger said: “I’m so sorry that we’ve had to postpone the Amsterdam show with such short notice tonight. Thank you all for your patience and understanding.”

Just two hours previous, guitarist Ronnie Wood had released a video on The Rolling Stone’s official Twitter account of himself arriving at the stadium, saying he was “looking forward to the show”.

The group recently performed at Anfield Stadium on June 9, opening the show with an emotional tribute to drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away last August, aged eighty. Liverpool Echo’s Jess Flaherty gave the gig five stars. She said: "Every song was a performance in its own right, with the band ensuring every single person in the crowd was guaranteed to have a truly unforgettable experience. Seeing and hearing The Rolling Stones perform live was a complete and utter joy. I will treasure the memories of last night forever.”

The Rolling Stones are currently part of the way through their hotly anticipated SIXTY tour celebrating sixty years in the music industry. Their next show is scheduled to be in Bern, Switzerland, on June 17. The band return to the UK to play at Hyde Park on July 3.
