A Michigan woman has been charged with child abuse after authorities discovered three children living in appalling conditions in a house in Pontiac, Michigan. The 34-year-old mother is accused of leaving her three children, a 15-year-old boy and two girls aged 12 and 13, to fend for themselves in a home filled with trash and feces.
The shocking discovery was made when police responded to a call from the landlord, who had not received rent payments since October. Upon entering the residence, officers were met with a scene of unimaginable squalor, with piles of garbage and refuse reaching several feet high. The children were found hiding in the home, covered in feces and struggling to move around due to the unsanitary conditions.
The prosecutor in the case, speaking at a news conference, expressed dismay at the lack of care and love shown to the children. She highlighted the fact that the children had likely been living alone since 2020 or 2021, with minimal contact with their mother, who resided elsewhere in Pontiac.

According to reports, the children had been communicating with their mother via text messages whenever they needed food. They were unable to perform basic hygiene tasks such as flushing a toilet and brushing their teeth, as they had not done so in years.
The mother is currently in custody and is awaiting a court hearing scheduled for Thursday. The children have been taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and care.
This disturbing case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of children. Authorities are working to provide support and assistance to the children as they navigate this traumatic experience.
