Michigan State vs. Washington: Can Spartans pull massive upset vs. Huskies this week?

Can Michigan State pull off a massive upset in the midst off field turmoil this week? That’s a question the Spartans Wire staff has answered in our weekly predictions.

The Spartans will be without head coach Mel Tucker on Saturday who was suspended indefinitely for sexual harassment allegations on Sunday. Harlon Barnett will take over as the interim head coach with former Spartans legend Mark Dantonio coming back in an associate head coach role.

Michigan State enters this matchup as a two-touchdown underdog and will be looking to get revenge upon the Huskies who rolled past the Spartans last year in Seattle. Both teams enter this game 2-0 on the year.

Check out our predictions for this matchup below:

Andrew Brewster

Prediction: MSU 28, Washington 35

Look. Given everything that has happened, it’s shocking how optimistic I feel about this game. That being said, it would be irresponsible to say that MSU could knock off a top ten team following a major controversy with an interim head coach at the helm. However, I feel weirdly good about this game for the Spartans. I think they could have a shot. And the last time MSU was able to beat Penix, Mark Dantonio had a headset on…

Cory Linsner

Prediction: MSU 24, Washington 41

There are a lot of unknowns with the Spartans this week, and I think there could be an emotional response early – but there’s one thing that’s certain, UW is a top 5 offense in America and that is going to be tough to stop.

Robert Bondy

Prediction: MSU 31, Washington 37

Entering the season, I had Michigan State pulling the upset in this matchup. But that was with me assuming there would be a little bit of a step back for the Huskies after storming onto the scene last year. That hasn’t been the case, and I’m not sure the Spartans will be able to keep up with Washington’s high-flying offense to earn the win. It’ll be close but the Huskies hold on for the road victory at Spartan Stadium.
