After one stellar season and one season marred by injuries that had more mixed results, former Michigan State football starting quarterback Payton Thorne released a statement on Thursday confirming that he is indeed in the NCAA transfer portal and intends to leave Michigan State.
Thorne, who was flipped to come to Michigan State from Western Michigan by Mark Dantonio, threw for 6,493 yards and 49 touchdowns during his time in East Lansing. He was a huge part of the 2021 Michigan State team that went 11-2.
Thorne, who is linked to Auburn, leaves a healthy quarterback room behind that will offer a quarterback battle between Noah Kim and Katin Houser for the starting role.
