Mel Tucker has been traveling around the recruiting trail nonstop since the calendar turned to 2022, constantly visiting high schools across the country. Earlier this week, Tucker was in Tacoma, Washington, visiting Lincoln High School. Lincoln is the home of 5-star defensive end Jayden Wayne, who came away with an offer, as well as very impressed with Michigan State and Mel Tucker.
The impressions that Tucker and his staff have left the 5-star has led to their inclusion as Wayne has narrowed his top schools list down to eleven.

Michigan State is included alongside Georgia, Auburn, Texas, USC, Washington, Alabama, Miami, Florida, LSU and Oregon.
Wayne currently ranks as the No. 31 overall recruit and No. 5 defensive lineman according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Wayne was set to start training privately with MSU’s new pass rush specialist Brandon Jordan, before he was hired by Michigan State.
Jordan’s prowess along with the relationship Tucker and Wayne are developing should put the Spartans firmly in the mix in this 5-star’s recruitment.
