Here are three things to watch out for in this matchup between Michigan State and Oakland:
Any rust for MSU?: It’s been a long time since we last seen Michigan State take the floor — 11 days to be exact. The time off definitely has its advantages as Michigan State was able to get some rest and practice time, but it can also result in some rust. It’ll be interesting to see if the Spartans get off to a slow start in this one or if they come out firing off the 11-day break.
Does Oakland play up to competition?: The Spartans are a perfect 19-0 all-time against Oakland but that doesn’t mean it’s always been smooth sailing for Michigan State in this rivalry matchup. The Grizzlies have challenged the Spartans in six of the last seven meetings, forcing the Spartans to earn the victory late in the second half. Oakland isn’t a very good team this year but don’t be surprised if they once again challenge Michigan State here.
Can MSU utilize size advantage?: Oakland lacks a true big to dominate in the paint, and this is a spot where the Spartans can bully the Grizzlies. Michigan State doesn’t often have the advantage in the post but this is a game where they should be able to find easy buckets in the paint.
