We saw it a few times with the football team where a player has entered their name into the NCAA transfer portal, and now we’ve seen it with the Michigan State basketball team as well, as Davis Smith withdrew his name over the weekend.
Davis, the son of MSU legend Steve Smith, has been a reserve player for the Spartans, and was set to transfer this offseason, but has decided to come back for another season with the Spartans.
Davis didn’t play more than 4 minutes in a game last year so it’s unclear if Izzo plans to use him on the wing in certain situations. It is good to have the son of a legend back on the roster, but I do think it’s uneasy timing since many are still hoping to see MSU active in the transfer portal.
