Injury Report
Both Michigan State and Washington are dealing with injuries after a pair of games this year.
As Spartans fans know by now, Michigan State will be without starting linebacker Darius Snow for the remainder of the season, and starting safety Xavier Henderson is out indefinitely with a leg injury. Michigan State star wide receiver Jayden Reed also was banged up in last week’s win over Akron but it is unclear at this time the severity of his injury and if he’ll miss any time.
Washington will be without at least two defenders. Linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio and safety Vincent Nunley are out for multiple weeks. A handful of other Huskies are battling day-to-day injuries as well.
Players to Watch
Here are three players to watch for Michigan State in this matchup against the Huskies:
Payton Thorne (QB): For a third straight week, I have Thorne listed as a player to watch and this week it’s even more important for him to have a good game. Thorne has been inconsistent in the first two game, and if he isn’t better on Saturday, it’ll be very hard for Michigan State to pick up the road win.
Keon Coleman (WR): If Reed is unavailable or not playing at 100%, then Michigan State will need some of its young wide receivers to step up. That includes Coleman, who leads the team in receiving with 120 yards and one touchdown on six catches this season.
Ameer Speed (CB): I’m highlighting the new cornerback starter here, but this is really for the entire Michigan State secondary that’ll be tested against Washington. The Huskies are led by familiar quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who is in his first year at Washington after transferring from Indiana, and he has proven he can dice teams when he’s on his game. This will be a great test for the Spartans’ secondary.
