Michigan State at Iowa: Can Spartans’ offense get back on track to pull upset?

Can Michigan State find a way to mustard up enough offense to upset the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday?

It’s been a rough go for the Spartans the past two weeks, especially offensively. Michigan State has been held to only combined points in blowout losses against Washington and Maryland, and now will have to face an even better defensive team in Iowa on the road.

So is it possible for the Spartans to find the endzone enough to pull the upset of the Hawkeyes? See what the Spartans Wire staff thinks in our weekly Michigan State predictions below:

Prediction: MSU 7, Iowa 23

Will it be the third straight game in single digits for MSU’s offense? Considering they’re going up against Iowa’s stout defense, and Jay Johnson is still leading the unit, I’d bet on it.

Prediction: MSU 7, Iowa 24

If there is one person who has been most exposed this season, it’s been offensive coordinator Jay Johnson. MSU’s defense actually did okay against Maryland, but it was the offense that struggled mightily, and even though it’s a first-year quarterback, Jay Johnson has plenty of weapons to work with, including one of the better running backs in the Big Ten, and his play-calling has just been baffling. I expect MSU to struggle in this one yet again.

Prediction: MSU 13, Iowa 20

If you’re looking for offensive firepower, then you came to the wrong place. This is going to be an ugly game and my gut feeling is that the Spartans will make a critical mistake late that costs them in a tough road atmosphere.
