Michigan’s Sherrone Moore Offers Statement on Assistant Coach’s Arrest

Michigan coach Sherrone Moore released a statement Saturday in regard to the arrest of new defensive line coach Greg Scruggs. Scruggs, whom Moore hired earlier this month, was arrested for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated early Saturday morning in Ann Arbor, Mich.

“Greg made an unfortunate mistake and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated,” Moore’s statement read. “He made no excuses and has taken accountability for his actions. The football program and athletic department have suspended Greg indefinitely while we review details of the incident.”

Ann Arbor police confirmed to the Detroit Free Press that Scruggs was arrested at approximately 3 a.m. ET Saturday morning.

Scruggs, 33, played in the NFL for four years with the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears. He started his coaching career with the University of Cincinnati in 2018 before moving on to the New York Jets and most recently Wisconsin as its defensive line coach.
