Michigan QB Cracks Hilarious Joke About Iowa When Asked About Practice for Washington

Monday night’s College Football Playoff national championship between No. 1 Michigan and No. 2 Washington will have much to do with the play of the respective starting quarterbacks—J.J. McCarthy and Michael Penix Jr.

But much of the work to be done for Monday night comes in the week of practice leading up to the game. That’s where Michigan backup quarterback Davis Warren comes in.

Warren, a junior scout team quarterback, was asked about the week of preparation leading up to the title game and his role in helping Michigan be at its best.

“It is fun. It’s more fun than when we play Iowa being the scout team quarterback,” Warren said, per Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News.

Warren has played the part of Penix Jr. in practice ahead of Michigan vs. Washington.

Nothing like a little postseason jab at the conference rival Hawkeyes, whose preposterously bad offense severely limited the team’s ceiling in 2023. The offense was so bad that offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz, the son of coach Kirk Ferentz, was fired.

In Warren’s defense, it must have been pretty boring for him to practice as the scout team quarterback leading up to the Big Ten title game against the Hawkeyes—he probably didn’t have to throw much at all. After all, Iowa made completing a forward pass look as difficult as solving a Rubik’s cube all season long.

Monday’s national championship kicks off at 7:45 p.m. ET.
